Three biogas facilities are poised to be established in the vicinity of Kolkata, aimed at converting garbage into biogas. The locations have been finalised in Chandannagar, Rishra and Sonarpur.

This initiative will be executed through a joint venture between Bengal Gas Company and the Bengal government.

An estimated investment of approximately Rs 120 crore will be required for the construction of these facilities.

Plans are also in place to construct another three biogas plants in Madhyamgram, Palta and Panihati.

Each of these facilities is expected to produce approximately 5 tons of organic gas from every 100 tons of waste processed. Municipal waste from various jurisdictions will be utilised as feedstock for these plants.
