Bengal CM sending high-level team to flood-hit north Bengal

With the districts of north Bengal receiving very heavy rainfall, resulting in swollen rivers, disrupted roads due to landslides and damaged properties, leading to many people getting marooned, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee decided on Sunday decided to send a high-level team to assess the situation and suggest mitigation measures.

She tweeted that the team would be led by Irrigation and Waterways Minister Partha Bhowmick and include the secretaries of the Disaster Management, Irrigation and Agriculture Departments.

North Bengal districts have received heavy rainfall, rivers have swollen, roads have been disrupted, properties have been damaged, people have been marooned.

She added that DMs and SPs of the affected districts, with the help of NDRF and SDRF personnel, are doing relief and rescue work and that she is “monitoring” the situation “personally” and has instructed the chief secretary to “supervise the field situation round the clock”.
