The budget session of the Bengal Legislative Assembly commenced on Monday, February 5 without Governor CV Ananda Bose delivering the customary opening speech, as he was absent.

There was no official statement from Raj Bhawan, though. A rise in the conflict between the state government and Raj Bhavan over the governor’s address appears imminent.

Proceedings continued as the speaker read the report from the Business Advisory Committee. After observing a moment of silence for those who had passed away, the assembly adjourned for the day.

Chandrima Bhattacharya, Minister of State for Finance, is scheduled to present the budget for 2024-25 on Thursday, February 8. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the Minister of Finance.

Security measures have been heightened in the assembly premises following the attack during the winter session in Parliament.
