Bengal bags 3 SKOCH Gold Awards

November 13, 2021 | 2 min read

Three departments of the Bengal government have been awarded SKOCH Gold Awards—in the education and tourism sectors.

After the recent SKOCH Award for the ‘Learning At Home’ project for children, which is a novel concept of educating rural children stuck at home due to the pandemic, and administered through the anganwadi centres, three more departments of the Bengal government have been awarded SKOCH Awards, and all of them are Gold awards.

Two of the awards have been won by the School Education Department and the Higher Education Department, while the other one has been won by the Tourism Department.

The School Education Department was awarded for ‘Banglar Shiksha 3.0’ while the Higher Education Department was awarded for ‘Banglar Uchchashiksha’.

Despite the schools being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, mid-day meals for the children were never stopped. The raw food materials were supplied to students through their parents, to be cooked at home. None of the other schemes were closed as well.

As for higher education, various universities and institutions in the state have performed well in rankings and other aspects.

The Tourism Department has been awarded the SKOCH Gold Award under the ‘Tourism and Culture’ category for ‘Transformational Performance During Covid’.

The South Bengal State Transport Corporation (SBSTC) has also won a SKOCH Award.

Last August too, Bengal had been bestowed with four SKOCH Awards—one Platinum, one Gold and two Silvers.

The Platinum Award was won for implementing ‘Ease of Doing Business’ through the Silpa Sathi single-window portal for industries. Awards came for the issuing of online trade licenses for rural areas and for the E-Nathikaran Scheme.
