After Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story, another controversial film, The Diary of West Bengal is about to be released. This is centred around NRC and CAA, it seems from the trailer, which was released on YouTube recently. Kolkata Police has registered a case against the makers and the administrator of the YouTube channel on which the trailer was released.

Controversial films pandering to the right-wing camp are becoming more and more common. After The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story (banned in Bengal initially by the government, which was overturned by the court), here comes The Diary of West Bengal.

The trailer of the film has been released and has immediately courted controversy. At the beginning of the trailer, it is written that the incidents shown are based on true information, and that the film’s purpose is “not to hurt the thoughts of people of any caste or religion” but to “create public awareness”.

However, the film supports controversial issues like NRC and CAA, as is evident from the trailer. The Kolkata Police has issued a legal notice to the director Sanoj Mishra, which says a case has been registered against the makers of the film under Sections 120B, 153A, 501, 504, 505 and 295A of the Indian Penal Code. The admin of the YouTube channel on which the trailer was uploaded has also been summoned.

Both have been asked to appear at the Amherst Street Police Station for questioning at 12 noon on May 30.
