On Monday, Bharti Airtel, a prominent telecom company, unveiled its plans to offer 5G connectivity to metro commuters in Kolkata.

This initiative involves deploying high-capacity nodes 35 metres below the river Hooghly, ensuring seamless connectivity along the 4.8 km stretch of Kolkata’s East-West Metro corridor.

Airtel’s efforts will establish it as the first operator to provide under-river tunnel connectivity in Kolkata. Scheduled to commence operations in June, India’s inaugural project of its kind will connect Howrah to Kolkata through a tunnel beneath the Hooghly River.
