AI generates questions that Mamata Banerjee should ask Narendra Modi

February 28, 2023 | 2 min read

Narendra Modi as prime minister has rarely answered questions from the media or the public. His interviews have all been scripted, ever since he became prime minister. The occasional meetings he has had with chief ministers have mostly been one-sided, with he doing all the talking. In Parliament, he has never answered a single question; he has only delivered written-out speeches.

As one of the most combative chief ministers, Mamata Banerjee of Bengal has often complained of being sidelined at meetings involving chief ministers. But if the Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were indeed allowed to ask direct questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, what should she ask? Well, artificial intelligence (AI) might have the answer.

Microsoft’s search engine Bing has introduced something called Bing with ChatGPT, where Microsoft Bing has partnered with OpenAI’s AI-based chatbot, ChatGPT to answer readers’ questions, which can be on any topic under the sun.

A Twitter user wanted to check how ‘intelligent’ the artificial intelligence-based Bing with ChatGPT really was. As someone from Bengal, he queried the chatbot what should the state’s chief minister, Mamata Banerjee ideally ask Narendra Modi. Some pretty combative stuff was expected, given the history between the two ever since Modi became prime minister, and for sure, combative it was.

Here’s the list of questions that was generated, “based on recent news reports”, as the chatbot wrote at the end. Mamata Banerjee will most likely agree to the questions, but will Narendra Modi agree to answer them? Not really, if his history of answering questions is any indication.

Here are the questions:

  • Why is the Centre not releasing funds for West Bengal under various schemes like MGNREGA and PMAY?
  • How does the Centre justify its digitisation push when it is making the lives of rural poor miserable?
  • What is the Centre’s response to the Income Tax survey at BBC offices which has been seen as an attack on media freedom?
  • How does the Centre plan to address the Covid-19 situation and vaccine shortage in West Bengal?
  • What steps has the Centre taken to improve relations with Bangladesh and other neighbouring countries?
