Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 26 initiated the groundwork for the redevelopment of 28 stations within the Eastern Railway’s jurisdiction across Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar, as part of the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’.

These stations are part of a larger endeavour encompassing over 550 stations across the country slated for improvement under the scheme.

Among the 28 stations, 17 are situated in Bengal, seven in Jharkhand and four in Bihar.

The Eastern Railway aims to complete the redevelopment of these stations by financial year 2024–25.

Significant investments are allocated for the redevelopment of key stations such as Bandel Junction, which serves as a crucial link between Howrah and the branch lines towards Bardhaman, Katwa and Naihati stations, with an investment of Rs 307 crore.

Stations in the Sealdah Division, including Bongaon Junction, Barasat, Dum Dum Junction, Gede, Kalyani, Madhyamgram, Naihati Junction and Sonarpur Junction, have been earmarked for redevelopment with an allocation of Rs 121.47 crore.

Under the Howrah Division, stations like Bally, Chandannagar, Dankuni, Khagraghat Road and Sainthia Junction will undergo upgrades costing approximately Rs 78.14 crore.

Stations in the Asansol Division, such as Basukinath, Deoghar, Dumka, Jamtara, Panagarh, Shankarpur and Vidyasagar, are slated for redevelopment with an investment of Rs 93.71 crore.

Furthermore, the Malda Division has a project allocation of Rs 104 crore for the redevelopment of Banka, Dhulian Ganga, Godda, Jangipur Road, Munger, Sabaur and Shivnarayanpur stations.
