Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a substantial decrease in the prices of domestic gas cylinders. On International Women’s Day, he declared that his government would reduce the cost of domestic gas cylinders by Rs 100, emphasising the relief this decision would bring to countless households grappling with financial burdens.

“Today, on Women’s Day, our Government has decided to reduce LPG cylinder prices by Rs. 100. This will significantly ease the financial burden on millions of households across the country, especially benefiting our Nari Shakti,” the PM’s post on his X handle read.

A 14.2 kg cooking gas cylinder was priced at Rs 929 in Kolkata; now it is Rs 829.

The new prices in the other metros are Rs 803 in Delhi, Rs 802.50 in Mumbai and Rs 818.50 in Chennai.

In a related development, the Union government declared on Thursday its decision to extend the subsidy of Rs 300 per LPG (cooking gas) cylinder (for up to 12 refills per year) to economically disadvantaged women under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana for the upcoming fiscal (2024-25), beginning April 1.

Last October, the government had increased this subsidy from Rs 200 to Rs 300, which was applicable till March 31, 2024.
