Mumbai emerged victorious in the 2024 edition of the Ranji Trophy on Thursday, March 14, securing a commanding 169-run victory over Vidarbha at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

This victory marked their 42nd Ranji Trophy title, underscoring their dominance in Indian domestic cricket. Mumbai reclaimed the title after last lifting it in the 2015-16 season, thus ending an eight-year championship drought.

Despite Vidarbha’s previous successes, with two consecutive Ranji Trophy triumphs, it faltered in this encounter. Tasked with chasing a formidable target of 538 runs, Vidarbha struggled to mount a substantial challenge. Although Akshay Wadkar (100) and Harsh Dubey (65) showcased commendable efforts, the lower order failed to withstand Mumbai’s bowling attack.

This victory held special significance for Ajinkya Rahane, who became the 26th captain of Mumbai to lift the Ranji Trophy. Rahane’s leadership, coupled with the collective determination of the team, proved instrumental in overcoming Vidarbha’s resistance and clinching the prestigious title.
