The first monsoon session of the new government will commence on Monday, July 22. Since only an interim Budget was presented in the Budget Session in February because of the impending Lok Sabha elections, this session will also see Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman present the first full-fledged Budget of the third Narendra Modi government.

The Monsoon Session will conclude on August 12, with 19 sittings (that is, working days) scheduled for both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

The finance minister will present the Economic Survey on July 22, the first day, followed by the Union Budget for the financial year 2024-25 on July 23, both in the Lok Sabha. The Budget for the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir will also be presented by her on Tuesday. She will be presenting a Union Budget for a record seventh time.

The Opposition, now much stronger than in the previous two terms of Narendra Modi, is expected to turn the heat on the government on the issues of NEET examination (and the National Testing Authority) and railway safety.

The government is expected to present six bills, including the one to replace the 90-year-old Aircraft Act.

Finance Bill, The Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, The Bhartiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, to replace the Aircraft Act of 1934, The Boilers Bill, to replace the pre-Independence era Boilers Act, The Coffee (Promotion and Development) Bill and The Rubber (Promotion and Development) Bill.

The government is also likely to bring amendments to The Banking Regulation Act, 1949, The Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Act, 1970 and The Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Act, 1980.
