The Kolkata Metro authorities have commenced repairs on the damaged houses in the Bowbazar area, which were affected during the underground tunnelling work of the East-West Metro corridor between Esplanade and Sealdah.

Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (KMRCL), the implementing agency, had pledged to repair all damaged houses and rebuild those completely destroyed in this area following the completion of the corridor’s construction.

The house at 6B Durga Pithuri Lane has already been repaired and returned to the owners in a habitable condition. The repair work on two houses at 19/1A Durga Pithuri Lane and 12 Madan Dutta Lane are at an advanced stage, with approximately 70 per cent of the repairs completed.

These houses are expected to be returned to their owners soon.

Repair work on another house at 1/4 Durga Pithuri Lane has recently commenced, and repairs on the damaged house at 19 Durga Pithuri Lane will begin shortly.

Engineers are reinforcing the foundations of the houses through grouting and utilising high-tensile steel (HTS) stitching, and using epoxy grouting for the damaged walls, along with doing the necessary re-flooring.

The Metro authorities stated that these repair works will enhance the longevity of the houses.
