Lokmat Parliamentary Awards: Derek O’Brien and Asdauddin Owaisi selected as Best Parliamentarians of 2022
The 2022 Lokmat Parliamentary Awards were given away today at a function held at the NDMC Convention Centre in New Delhi. Former President Ram Nath Kovind was present as the chief guest. The awards have been given by the Lokmat Media Group since 2017 to the outstanding parliamentarians of the year.
Eight awards were given in four categories for significant contributions to parliamentary democracy, with the recipients being four MPs each from the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
Derek O’Brien, Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP and Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM Lok Sabha MP, were bestowed with the Parliamentarian of the Year awards for 2022.
The Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge from the Rajya Sabha (Leader of Opposition) and BJD’s Bhartrihari Mehtab from the Lok Sabha.
The other recipients from the Rajya Sabha were NCP’s Vandana Chauhan (Best Woman Parliamentarian of the Year) and RJD’s Manoj Kumar Jha (Best Debutant Parliamentarian of the Year), while from the Lok Sabha were BJP’s Tejaswi Surya (Best Debutant Parliamentarian of the Year) and Locket Chatterjee (Best Woman Parliamentarian of the Year).
The winners were decided by a jury chaired by NCP President and former parliamentarian Sharad Pawar.
Past winners of the awards include parliamentary stalwarts like Dr Manmohan Singh, Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Sharad Pawar, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Sharad Yadav, Sitaram Yechury and Jaya Bachchan.
