Kolkata’s first public sports library
The first public library in Kolkata devoted exclusively to sports was inaugurated at Mohun Bagan club recently. A now-closed sports library existed at the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) office at Eden Gardens, but it was not meant for the general public, only for researchers.
Several writers and journalists have donated their books to the library. English and Bengali books, covering several sports, have been kept at the library.
The library was aptly inaugurated on February 21, the day celebrated the world over as International Mother Language Day. Shirshendu Mukherjee, the famous Bengali writer, along with the Bengal Sports Minister Aroop Biswas inaugurated it.
