Kolkata’s first model pay-and-use toilet, with a changing room, shower facility and baby care room for women, was inaugurated last Monday in Netajinagar.

The two-storied building stands on NSC Bose Road. The ground floor is for men and the first floor is for women. The women’s section also has a sanitary napkin vending machine.

While the facility has been constructed by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), it is being maintained by Sri Aurobindo Institute of Culture, located in Netajinagar. An all-women team is in charge of the day-to-day looking-after.

It has been learned that one hundred such pay-and-use toilets will be built by KMC in the next two years.
