47th International Kolkata Book Fair starting today
The International Kolkata Book Fair (IKBF), termed the ‘world’s largest book festival’, is kicking off today with the inauguration by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at around 4 pm.
The United Kingdom being the theme country of the 47th edition, the inauguration will take place in the presence of Alex Ellis, British High Commissioner to India, Alison Barrett, Director of British Council-India, eminent author Bani Basu and other authors, dignitaries and various ministers of state.
For the same reason, the main gate has been themed after the UK. The year 2024 also happens to be the 75th anniversary of British Council-India.
Another of the gates will depict Kolkata’s Bethune School, since it is commemorate its 175th anniversary.
Unlike in previous years, the book fair will be opened to the public on the day of inauguration itself. Around 1,000 big, medium and small stalls have got a place at IKBF this time.
People can participate in the ‘Book Bumper Library Lottery’ for a shot at winning book gift coupons worth Rs 25,000.
The book fair will continue from January 18 to 31, and will be open from 12 pm to 8 pm.
