The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is expected to inaugurate the Kalighat Skywalk on the day of Janmashtami, which falls on August 26, informed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee last Saturday night, during a visit to the Kalighat Temple with her family and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim to offer prayers.

She also addressed the issue of hawker rehabilitation in the temple complex, indicating that this process would commence following the skywalk’s completion.

Initially, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) had set a deadline of March 2024 for the skywalk project back in December. Due to multiple missed deadlines since 2021, the KMC began monitoring its progress on a weekly basis.

Regarding the renovation of the Kalighat Temple, Banerjee disclosed that the state government plans to allocate Rs 200 crore for the project. She also mentioned the contribution of Mukesh Ambani towards restoring the golden spirals atop the temple.
