Israeli film gets top spot at Kolkata Film Festival

The film Children of Nobody by Israeli filmmaker Erez Tadmor won the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Award for Best Film in the ‘Innovation in Moving Images’ category, which is the international competition category, at the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival. Carlos Daniel Malave from Venezuela was awarded the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Award for Best Director for One Way. They won prize monies of Rs 51 lakh and Rs 21 lakh, respectively.

These and the other awards were handed over at the closing ceremony held at Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata on Wednesday, December. 13. The ending gala had Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari as chief guest, with veteran actors Sharmila Tagore and Mohan Agase adorning the stage.

Chalchitra Ekhon by producer and director Anjan Dutt, his tribute to his mentor Mrinal Sen, won the ‘Special Jury’ award. Haobam Paban Kumar’s Joseph’s Son also won the same award. Mon Potongo, a film by SRFTI alumni Raajdeep Pail and Sarmistha Maiti was nominated as the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Award winner in the Best Bengali Panorama Film category and won a prize money of Rs 7.5 lakh.

The Hiralal Sen Memorial Award, along with a prize money of Rs 5 lakh, went to Shonet Anthony Barreto for Avni Ki Kismat, a film on tiger conservation.
