The ISF MLA Naushad Siddiqui today went to Nabanna to meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee amidst allegations by the opposition parties that their candidates are not being allowed to file nominations for the panchayat elections by Trinamool leaders and activists.

The chief minister, though, could not meet him as she was busy, according to sources.

Later, Naushad said that the opposition has been prevented from submitting nomination papers everywhere, including Bhangar (which is a strong support base for ISF).

He said the Election Commission has entrusted the state police with the job of protecting candidates and Mamata Banerjee, as home minister, is in charge of the state police. That is why he had gone to meet her and complain to her about the prevailing situation.

He also said that if he gets time in the future, he will definitely meet the chief minister and inform her about the issue.
