Indian whiskeys winning awards for being the world’s best
Beating well-known brands in a blind-tasting competition, the Rampur Indian Single Malt Asava has been judged the best whiskey in the Best World Whiskey category at the John Barleycorn Awards 2023.
The John Barleycorn Awards are given in various categories, like Spirit Of the Year, Best Bourbon, Best American Whiskey, Best Irish Whiskey, Best Scotch Whiskey, Best World Whiskey, etc.
This is the second time in recent months that an Indian single malt has won a top award at a world blind-tasting competition.
In September 2023, Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 won the ‘Best in Show’ category to be crowned the world’s best whiskey at the prestigious Whiskeys of the World Awards, putting Indian single malts on a new pedestal. It outshone hundreds of Scotch whiskeys, Bourbons, Canadian whiskeys, and Australian and British single malts.
At duty-free outlets, Radico Khaitan’s Rampur Asava is priced at Rs 9,390 and Piccadily Distilleries’ Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 at Rs 9,000 per bottle.
With these awards, Indian single malt whiskeys are establishing themselves as the ones to beat—the new frontier in the world of premium spirits.
