Google has placed significant emphasis on advancing AI, as evident from announcements such as Gemini and Google Bard. Now, there are indications that the company is considering internal implementation, raising concerns about the potential repercussions—specifically, according to The Information, the company contemplating laying off around 30,000 employees in its ad sales division.

The imminent workforce reductions come on the heels of a substantial downsizing last year, during which 12,000 employees were dismissed, representing the largest workforce reduction in the company’s history.

Google’s exploration of AI extends beyond its ad sales division to include its customer support service. The incorporation of AI into customer support is also anticipated to have a direct impact on the human-centric aspects of the company’s operations.

In response to the ongoing transformations, Google CEO Sundar Pichai underscored the challenges presented by the dynamic landscape and emphasised the unavoidable costs, particularly in the form of job cuts.
