The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in southern Bengal until Friday.

On Thursday, Kolkata and its surrounding areas experienced significant rainfall, leading to traffic jams and disruptions to daily activities.

The districts of West Medinipur and East Bardhaman are anticipated to be especially affected, with the possibility of extremely heavy downpours.

All districts in South Bengal are expected to receive rain on Thursday, with additional rainfall likely throughout the day on Friday. While temperatures may decrease slightly, increased relative humidity will add to discomfort.

Purulia, West Bardhaman, Murshidabad and Birbhum districts may experience heavy rain on Friday. Light to moderate rain with thundershowers is likely over other districts, including Kolkata.

In the northern part of the state, heavy rain is likely in the districts of Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Malda, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur.

Rainfall will reduce from Saturday, according to the IMD, but a relative humidity between 80 and 95 per cent will increase the discomfort.
