The election for 12 Rajya Sabha seats will be held September 3. The Election Commission of India has issued a notification in this regard.

These 12 seats are spread across nine states: Maharashtra, Bihar, Assam (two seats each), Tripura, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Telangana (one seat each).

Among these 12, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds seven, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) holds one and Indian national Congress (INC) holds two (one seat each from Haryana and Rajasthan).

Though the BJP controls seven, political analysts predict intense competition for 10 of the 12 seats.

The results are expected to be announced on September 3, he same day as the elections, at 5 pm. Since the voting is held in the legislative assemblies and councils, Rajya Sabha elections are usually one-day affairs.
