Dalai Lama to visit Bodh Gaya in December amidst Chinese warning
The Dalai Lama will visit Bodh Gaya, the holiest place for Buddhists all over the world, in the coming month. He is scheduled to arrive on December 16 on a four-week visit.
The visit assumes significance in the light of the recent warning issued by the Chinese government that the present Dalai Lama’s successor should be selected only with its permission and from within its borders.
In Bodh Gaya, he will inaugurate a four-day international Buddhist summit on December 20 at the Mahabodhi Cultural Centre, to which Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and global dignitaries have been invited. Over 10,000 devotees from across the world are expected to attend the event.
The Dalai Lama will set up residence at the Tibetan Monastery and will participate in religious rituals and deliver sermons.
