BJP MP takes sabbatical from elections after ‘sex tape’ goes viral

March 4, 2024 | < 1 min read

Uttar Pradesh BJP Member of Parliament Upendra Singh Rawat has posted on his X handle that he will “refrain from participating in the upcoming general elections” after an alleged ‘sex tape’ of him with an unrecognised woman has gone viral on social media.

Taking to X, Rawat has claimed that the video was “manufactured through DeepFake AI” and that he will not contest the elections until proven innocent.

Rawat has filed an FIR with the UP Police. His name was declared in BJP’s first list of candidates.

Upendra Singh Rawat becomes the second candidate from the BJP to drop out of the electoral race after Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh declared that he will not be able to contest the polls from Asansol, within hours of his name being declared.
