Bengal preferred location for investment by IT biggies
IT big shots like Wipro, Infosys and ITC Infotech are keen on investing in Bengal by setting up their offices and units. With its huge infrastructural development and immensely talented indigenous workforce, the state is providing a clear and beneficial playing field for information technology (IT) companies.
Bengal is sufficiently placed in the availability of internet connectivity and seamless power supply—the main supports of the IT industry—thanks to the state government’s infrastructural development ventures.
Webel, the Bengal government’s nodal body for information technology, has constructed a dozen IT parks and hubs throughout the state, the most prominent ones being in Salt Lake Sector V and New Town. These hubs provide an advanced ecosystem for cutting-edge applications such as blockchain, data analytics and artificial intelligence.
Software Technology Parks (STPs) and special economic zones (SEZs) produce software exports and projects worth millions of dollars.
In New Town, on the outskirts of Kolkata, 27 companies have already started setting up their units at the Fintech Hub and more than Rs 13,000 crore has been invested at Bengal Silicon Valley IT Hub. The state government is also considering converting the Bantala Leather Complex into a complete IT city.
The infrastructural push of the government is encouraging new entrepreneurs to start businesses in the field of IT.
