EC releases voter lists for Bengal Assembly by-elections
The Election Commission has published the final lists of voters for the six Assembly by-elections to be held in Bengal on November 13. All the major parties released their lists of candidates in the third week of October.
The constituencies going to the polls are Sitai, Madarihat, Naihati, Haroa, Medinipur and Taldangra. All the seats became vacant as the sitting MLAs were elected as MPs in Lok Sabha in this year’s general election.
A virtual meeting was held at the office of Bengal’s chief electoral officer (CEO) in which Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar made it clear that the by-elections should be conducted with the same importance as the Lok Sabha elections.
A total of 15,22,056 people are eligible to vote in the six constituencies, among them 7,67,702 men, 7,54,335 women and 19 of the third gender. They will be casting their votes at a total of 1,583 polling stations.
