Calcutta High Court lawyers and a group of doctors today marched in protest in relation to the RG Kar rape-and-murder case.

The lawyers marched in the court premises, carrying placards saying ‘punishment to the real culprits’.

Several senior lawyers, including the former state advocate-general Jayanta Mitra, joined the march. He described the rape-and-murder of the postgraduate trainee doctors a “crying shame for the entire Bengali community”.

The doctors’ march was in solidarity with the Kunal Sarkar and Subarna Goswami, two senior doctors who were asked by Kolkata Police to report at its headquarters in Lalbazar in connection with social media posts making fake claims.

This rally was taken out from Medical College, Kolkata to Lalbazar by the Joint Platform of Doctors and the two named doctors went with them to Lalbazar.

These are the two in the series of protest marches over the August 9 incident at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Yesterday evening, supporters of the big rival clubs, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal marched together in protest. The protesters, many of whom were in jerseys of their clubs, displayed posters with the slogan ‘We want justice’.

Then, there was a protest march by junior doctors, students and others on Sunday afternoon from College Street to Shyambazar, enduring rain and waterlogged streets.
