The BJP has allocated Rs 40 crore to supply alcohol to its booth workers on election day but refuses to release the funds owed to Bengal under MGNREGS, Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Banerjee claimed at a rally in Kultali on Saturday, May 18.

“In a Sandeshkhali sting video, the BJP mandal president revealed that election alcohol expenses for his booth were Rs 5,000. With around 80,000 booths in Bengal, BJP is spending Rs 40 crore on alcohol while denying people their rightful dues. In contrast, we spent over Rs 8,000 crore in a year on roads under the Pathasree scheme. This is our commitment,” he stated.

“When the results are announced on June 4, a new government will be formed at the Centre. It is TMC’s duty to ensure Bengal receives its rightful dues within 3 months when the INDIA bloc government is in power,” he added.

At rallies in Kultali and Diamond Harbour, Banerjee said: “I commend the people of South 24 Parganas for never falling for the BJP’s traps. I am not asking for votes from the people of Diamond Harbour but am requesting a victory margin of 4 lakh votes. If Diamond Harbour leads in development, it should also lead in the victory margin,” he concluded.
