Mamata Banerjee falls at home, gets three stitches on forehead

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sustained a forehead injury following a fall at her Kalighat residence in Kolkata on Thursday. The 69-year-old leader was promptly taken to the state-run SSKM Hospital in Kolkata, where she was given three stitches on her forehead and one on the nose.

Earlier, the Trinamool Congress shared images of the injured chief minister on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Our chairperson @MamataOfficial suffered a significant injury. Please keep her in your prayers.”

The incident sparked widespread concern in the state, with Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee and other party leaders seen at the health facility. Hundreds of well-wishers gathered at the hospital to inquire about the her health condition.

Leaders from various political affiliations extended their wishes for Mamata Banerjee’s swift recovery. Senior Trinamool leader Sukhendu Sekhar Ray mentioned that Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, the previous governor of Bengal, had reached out to inquire about the chief minister’s health, expressing deep concern and wishing her a speedy recovery.

State BJP President Sukanta Majumdar also conveyed his wishes for Mamata Banerjee’s speedy recovery on X, stating, “Our prayers are with her for a quick return to good health”.

Similarly, State Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also expressed his hopes for the chief minister’s quick recuperation.
