In the state budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025, an allocation of Rs 150 crore has been made for the construction of a flyover that will connect EM Bypass and New Town.

This flyover is set to begin from the Metropolitan crossing on EM Bypass and end near Panache Apartment in Mahishbathan, New Town.

Included in the project are three ramps—one near Nicco Park and another near Nalban to facilitate vehicles travelling from Salt Lake to EM Bypass, and a third to descend near College More in Sector V, serving vehicles headed to Sector V, various parts of Salt Lake or neighbouring sections of New Town.

A segment of the 7.1 km flyover, spanning approximately 1.5 km, will traverse above the East Kolkata Wetlands. Each flank of the four-lane flyover will measure 7.5 m wide.

State Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim stated on Tuesday that the tender inviting bids for the construction is likely to be issued after the Lok Sabha elections.
