A delegation comprising five All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) members of Parliament (MPs) submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission of India today over the deactivation of Aadhar cards in the state.
The delegation included Lok Sabha MPs Pratima Mondal and Sajda Ahmed and Rajya Sabha MPs Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Dola Sen and Saket Gokhale.
Asserting that Aadhaar cards of primarily individuals from the Matua community were being deactivated, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the BJP of engaging in a “political game” and claimed her party thwarted the conspiracy.
Addressing the attendees at an International Mother Language Day event on February 21, she alleged that this scheme aimed to pave the way for implementing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state.
On February 19, she had sent a letter to the prime minister on the issue, asking why such a thing was being done, and that too, just before the Lok Sabha elections.
