Darjeeling is set to introduce India’s first high-altitude single-end aquarium, at the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park (PNHZP). It will enrich the zoo’s ambience with an array of vibrant aquatic life.

The reptile house at PNHZP, spanning a diameter of 55 feet, will be transformed into the aquarium. It will house larger species of ornamental fish. Currently, common fish varieties are housed in a smaller tank within the reptile house.

PNHZP, acclaimed as the nation’s top zoo in 2022, has recently seen the arrival of Lara and Akamas, a pair of Siberian tigers from Paphos Zoo in Cyprus, as part of a collaborative exchange initiative involving two red pandas. The Siberian tigers would be opened to public viewing on January 10.
