Kolkata Police is trying to enhance the Dial 100 emergency calling system by decreasing the response time of the police to any call for help from eight minutes to four minutes, thus making it one of the swiftest in the country.
The department has issued a request for a comprehensive annual maintenance contract for the Dial 100 system, which will include two primary rate interface (PRI) lines providing 46 voice channels and two data channels. Additionally, there will be eight distinct analog extensions and 15 IP extensions.
There has been a significant improvement in the response time of the Dial 100 service over the years—from 15 minutes in 2019 to eight minutes in 2020. This was made possible by deploying 82 patrol vehicles operating round-the-clock.
Furthermore, an additional 46 bikes were incorporated last year, which helped the police expand their service network.
