Vir Das and Ekta Kapoor win International Emmys

Comedian-actor Vir Das and producer Ekta Kapoor have won International Emmy Awards, awarded on November 20, awarded on November 20 in New York City, becoming the first Indians in their respective fields to win the award.

Vir Das won the International Emmy for Comedy for his Netflix comedy special, Vir Das: Landing, an award he shared with the makers of the show Derry Girls Season 3. In the film, Das talks about the intersection of Indian and American cultures through the lens of politics.

He has thus become the first Indian comedian to accomplish this honour. This was Das’s second nomination for an International Emmy.

Vir Das is widely regarded as one of the pioneers in India’s modern stand-up comedy scene, appearing in over 100 stand-up shows and boasting multiple stand-up specials. He has also acted in over 15 films.

Ekta Kapoor was awarded the International Emmy Directorate Award for her contributions to the industry, including as a producer for television shows, films and OTT shows, becoming the first Indian woman filmmaker to receive the award.

Ekta has produced several iconic TV shows such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, among others.
