Leander Paes has become the first male Asian player to be nominated for induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. He was one of six former players announced for the Class of 2024, the others being Cara Black (also his one-time Grand Slam-winning partner), Ana Ivanovic, Carlos Moya, Daniel Nestor and Flavia Pennetta.

The first Asian overall was the Chinese, Li Na in 2019.

He is the holder of 18 Grand Slam titles—eight doubles and 10 mixed doubles.

Leander also holds the world record of winning the most doubles matches in Davis Cup, the number being 43.

He also has another record for India—being the only winner of a medal in tennis at the Olympics, winning the bronze at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

He was also the ATP’s number 1-ranked doubles player for 37 weeks.

Another Indian was also nominated for induction into the Hall of Fame – Vijay Amritraj, former top player and a well-known commentator, for his contribution to tennis.
