Novak Djokovic produced a masterclass inside the Arthur Ashe Stadium at Flushing Meadows in New York to defeat the 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev in straight sets, 6-3 7-6(5) 6-3 and thus capture a record 24 Grand Slam singles titles.

He is now two slams ahead of old rival Rafael Nadal, who could not play due to injury. Djokovic also regained the number 1 ranking.

As for the future success of Djokovic, multiple Grand Slam winner Mats Wilander told Eurosport, “There is no reason that I can see why he cannot be a Grand Slam winner again three or four times next year because his mind is so strong and he can do everything.”
