Bengal panchayat elections: Repolling in 697 booths today
The State Election Commission has ordered repolling in 697 polling booths across the state on July 10, that is, today. Only Jhargram, Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts won’t have any repolling.
According to the order, passed yesterday, repolling would be held in 19 districts, the most in Murshidabad. In Murshidabad, repolling would be held in 175 booths. The next highest number of booths where repolling would be held are in neighbouring Malda, followed by Nadia.
The voting time will be as usual, that is, from 7 am to 5 pm.
Though a healthy 80.71 per cent of the eligible voters exercised their franchise on Saturday, all parties complained about violence and vandalization of ballot boxes. State Election Commissioner Rajiva Sinha had said that he would take a decision on repolling after examining the reports from observers and returning officers.
