Panchayat elections: Details of central force deployment
For the panchayat elections in Bengal, slated for July 8, as mandated by the Calcutta High Court, 822 companies of central forces, comprising 65,000-odd troops, will be deployed, spread across every booth.
To accommodate that, they will share duties with 70,000-odd state police force troops, as also mandated by the court.
Per district troop deployment:
- Murshidabad: 45 companies, which is the maximum, as the district has seen a lot of troubles in the lead-up to the polls
- East Midnapore: 37 companies
- Howrah: 37 companies
- North 24 Parganas: 35 companies
- East Bardhaman: 33 companies
- Nadia: 31 companies
- South 24 Parganas: 30 companies
- Malda: 30 companies
- Cooch Behar: 28 companies
- Hooghly: 28 companies
The central forces are formed by police personnel from 20 states and Union territories.
They are (in alphabetical order): Andhra Pradesh Police, Arunachal Pradesh Police, Assam Police, Bihar Police, Chandigarh Police, Chhattisgarh Police, Goa Police, Gujarat Police, Hyderabad Police, Jharkhand Police, Karnataka Police, Kerala Police, Maharashtra Police, Mizoram Police, Nagaland Police, Punjab Police, Rajasthan Police, Tamil Nadu Police, Telangana Police and Tripura Police.
