India won its second Intercontinental Cup yesterday, defeating Lebanon 2-0 in the final at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

Veteran Sunil Chhetri did it for India for the umpteenth time in crunch matches, and Lallianzuala Chhangte added the second, both in the second half.

This was India’s second triumph in the Intercontinental Cup in the tournament’s third edition, having won the inaugural edition in 2018. North Korea won the 2019 tournament.

Chhetri’s strike was his 87th in a glittering international career that is two years shy of the two-decade mark.

With Lebanon at 99 and India at 101 in the FIFA rankings before the match, winning was also crucial for the Blue Tigers to break into the top 100.
