Manchester City defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League final in Istanbul today to win its first Champions League trophy.

For super-coach Josep Guardiola, it was the third title, and also impressively, the only coach in Europe to achieve the treble twice—winning the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League for Barcelona in 2008-09 and the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League for Manchester City in 2022-23.

Among English club coaches, he became only the person after Sir Alex Ferguson in 1999 to win the treble in one season.

Inter did not make it easy for the favourites City. But they did not take the chances they had, including two close ones towards the end of the second half, and both involving Romelu Lukaku—one where he was unfortunately to be in the way of a header and the second, where he should have headed into the goal.

City took one of the few chances it had. It was a brilliant goal by midfielder Rodrigo, one of the standout players for the club this season.
