Cyclone Mocha is likely to move from south-east Bay of Bengal, where it is at present, “north-northwest to central Bay of Bengal till May 11 and then re-curve and move north-northeast towards Bangladesh-Myanmar coast,” said Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of IMD, according to a PTI report.

Therefore, the IMD has suggested regulation of tourism and offshore activities and shipping near Andaman and Nicobar Islands and over south-east and central Bay of Bengal till Friday, May 12.

Winds with speed reaching 70 kmph is likely over south-east Bay of Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and adjoining Andaman Sea on Tuesday, he also said.

Mocha will, therefore, likely spare mainland India. The name was given by Yemen, one of the Indian Ocean rim countries, after the Red Sea port of Mocha, which became famous for the export of the eponymous coffee grown that seaport region.
