Khudiram Bose – terrorist?

Zee5 show ‘Abhay 2’ depicts Khudiram Bose as terrorist, runs into trouble

On August 14, on the eve of India’s 74th Independence Day, Zee5 launched the web series ‘Abhay 2’. Almost immediately, it ran into trouble.

The reason was that in one of the scenes, inside a police station, a board containing pictures of terrorists was shown as having a picture of the famous freedom fighter, Khudiram Bose, who was hanged to death by the British on August 11, 1908.

The question arose as to how could such a grave mistake occur? A thought also arose in the minds of many Bengalis that is it because he is a Bengali that care had not been taken about his depiction?

Zee5 was bombarded with angry comments and questions, especially on social media.

Ultimately, the OTT platform issued a statement, saying that it had no intention of hurting any group and that keeping the sensitiveness of the issue in mind, Khudiram’s pictures would be replaced.

However, even after this, many were miffed with Zee5 and were talking on social media about boycotting the platform.
