Roger Federer bids goodbye. A look at some of his best moments on court
Roger Federer, perhaps the greatest tennis player of the modern era, bid a tearful goodbye to tennis after the first doubles match of the Laver Cup, playing for Team Europe against Team World, a match in which he partnered his biggest-rival-cum-best-buddy, Rafael Nadal. He, though, sadly, lost (when he had the opportunity to close down the match by winning his last service point, when the scoreline was 9-8 in their favour in the tie-break last set).
The tears flowed freely, at the close of a career spanning two decades, and which saw some of the sport’s greatest rivalries, with most of them involving him as one of the participants.
