Let there be no politics over KK’s death

June 1, 2022 | < 1 min read

Well-known playback singer KK (full name Krishnakumar Kunnath) complained of feeling unwell while performing at the Nazrul Mancha auditorium in Kolkata yesterday. After the performance, he went back to his hotel. As per reports, he collapsed on a sofa in his room. He was then taken to hospital, where he was declared brought dead. His death happened approximately an hour after the concert.

This is the gist of what happened yesterday. The need of the hour is for everyone to stand beside the grieving family in their hour of need.

But what we are seeing instead is dirty politics over his death regarding the conditions at Nazrul Mancha. ‘Politics’, as in literally political parties getting involved. A few well-known people, including singers, have pitched in as well with their criticism of the arrangements at the auditorium.

That though is for the appropriate authorities to look into. Needless criticism and through it, muddying the waters, is certainly not expected.

The Bengal government, on the instruction of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, arranged for the body to be brought to the Rabindra Sadan complex today for his fans to pay their last respects. He was given a gun salute in the presence of his family members, fans and the media. Soon after, the family members left for Mumbai with the body.
