Back to Bengal

Amit Shah phones Arjun Singh. Is it the last desperate bid by the BJP to keep him back?

The BJP is desperate to keep its MP Arjun Singh in the party. According to sources, the party’s unofficial number two, Home Minister and former party president Amit Shah himself phoned him today.

On the other hand, his base, Barrackpore is full of posters depicting him, along with Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, with the word ‘Welcome’ on top.

Speculation is rife that he will be back in his earlier party sooner rather than later, and will also bring along his son.

He put out another cryptic tweet today, in the form of a two-line poem, his third in four days.

The meaning can be translated as: “Sometimes it’s necessary look inside yourself, and you will see the real foundation on which you stand today.”

So, will the BJP’s master strategist’s phone call today reap dividends, or will Arjun Singh realise his foundation? It remains to be seen.
