Sarika, in a still from ‘My Beautiful wrinkles’

Her sabbatical from the screen was extended because of the lockdown, a sabbatical begun by her because of not getting good enough roles. Sarika, though, was making good money doing theatre.

But the pandemic struck, and her income trickled down to next to nothing. As she admitted in a recent interview, she was making just Rs 2,000-2,700 a month from doing theatre during the lockdown, an amount too little to sustain anyone.

Her decision to come back to the screen was, therefore, largely because she was running out of money. But talent can never be held back.

She returned … and brought a beautiful character to life, nourishing our eyes. Life, after all, is too short to not love, and to not witness her beautiful eyes.

The warmth ‘My Beautiful Wrinkles’ carries is unparalleled. Dilbar Sodhi, you have our heart.

The short is part of the anthology Modern Love Mumbai, a worthy Indian rendition of the well-known English series on Amazon Prime, Modern Love, which comprises short episodes inspired by the column of the same name in The New York Times.

Always, a new car in front of an old dented one reminds you of the hurting memories. Now, won’t spoil you with these clichés.

Watch for yourself.

Modern Love Mumbai on Amazon Prime (even love is sold through a subscription; still, it is what lets things stay afloat).
