May 12, 2022 | < 1 min read

From a severe cyclonic storm, Asani has weakened to a depression, as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday, and will bring heavy rains today and tomorrow. Though cyclone warnings had gone out in Bengal, especially in coastal areas, the storm did not have a direct impact on the state.

While there still remains a possibility of a tidal surge on the coastline, locals have been advised to keep away from the beaches of Digha, Mandarmani, Bakkhali and other coastal areas. The storm, incidentally, weakened on Wednesday, bringing heavy rainfall to parts of Andhra Pradesh.

According to an early morning bulletin by IMD today, squally wind speed reaching 45-55 km/h, gusting to 65 km/h, will is likely to prevail along and off the coastal districts of Krishna, East Godavari and West Godavari in Andhra Pradesh, Yanam in Puducherry, and off the Odisha coast during next the 12 hours.
