Contractual workers under OFB fear the axe following its dissolving

October 1, 2021 | < 1 min read

The 300 contractual employees of Ordnance Factory Board, a department under the Ministry of Defence, at factories in Ichapore, Cosspore and Dum Dum fear for their jobs as the board is dissolved in favour of the factories under it across the country being divided under seven PSUs, directly under the Union government.

While the country reels under unemployment, 300-odd contractual employees of the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) are tensed regarding their fate as the Union government’s Ministry of Defence has initiated the process of dissolving the board with effect from October 1.

An official order dated September 28 states that the ministry will transfer its assets, employees and management to seven public sector units (PSUs).

The whole process will take a year or two. But this has left the contractual workers of the board with apprehension and uncertainty over losing their jobs. The OFB has four factories under it—two in Ichhapore and one each in Cossipore and Dum Dum.
