Tokyo 2020 has been India’s best-ever Paralympic Games

The 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, which concluded today, was India’s best ever. The country’s athletes won a total of 19 medals, comprising of five gold medals, eight silver medals and six bronze medals.

It was paddler Bhavinaben Patel who got the country off the mark on the third day of the Paralympics by winning a silver in the women’s singles table tennis Class 4 category. India clinched its first gold of the Games through shooter Avani Lekhara in women’s 10m air rifle shooting standing SH1 event. A few days later, she went on to win another medal, bagging a bronze in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions shooting SH1.

Moreover, Sumit Antil, while smashing multiple world records in javelin throw, Manish Narwal in shooting, and Pramod Bhagat and Krishna Nagar in badminton, also clinched the top honours.

  • Suhas Yathiraj – Silver in men’s Badminton Singles SL4
  • Singhraj Adhana – Silver in mixed 50m Pistol SH1
  • Bhavina Patel – Silver in women’s Table Tennis Singles Class 4
  • Nishad Kumar – Silver in men’s High Jump T47
  • Sundar Singh Gurjar – Bronze in men’s Javelin Throw F46
  • Singhraj Adhana – Bronze in men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1
  • Sharad Kumar – Bronze in men’s High Jump T63
